We have been informed by the AUTOSAR Regional Hub in Japan that “in order to use MCAL in OSS-ECAL, you need to join as an Associate Partner” and have decided to discontinue MCAL support in the regular version of OSS-ECAL.
In OSS-ECAL, the MCAL function itself was not open-sourced, as shown in the figure below, but was implemented by replacing the HAL interface code section with the MCAL function interface. To test the MCAL functions, we used code that comes with the commercially available AUTOSAR evaluation boards, but these codes are not included in OSS-ECAL.
Our interpretation was that because AUTOSAR evaluation boards are commercially available, using the code in this manner did not constitute copyright infringement. However, AUTOSAR pointed out to us that this constitutes commercial use of the AUTOSAR standard, which led us to reconsider our response.
OSS-ECAL is not a viable service as a business and we cannot pay the annual fee of 21,000 EUR for the MCAL version with no known needs. We ask for everyone’s understanding.
